PLUMSTED MUNICIPAL UTILITIES AUTHORITY
TOWNSHIP OFFER TO COLLECT YOUR TRASH, RECYCLING AND BULKY WASTE
For the
first time, The
Plumsted Municipal Utilities Authority (PMUA) received three
bids; the lowest bid was from Waste Management of New
Jersey. Based on
a review of the service options included in the RFP, the
Township Committee and our PMUA believes the service level
option which provides for
curbside
collection of household trash once per week, single
stream curbside collection of recyclable materials (mixed –
no need to separate) every other week and curbside
collection of certain bulky waste items (all the items
currently accepted at the recycling center) once
per month will
provide greater convenience and service at lower prices than
the general public can obtain individually from private
companies.
Personally, at the present time, I am paying $111.00 every
three months for just trash and recycling collection and
have to transport larger bulk items to the recycling center
myself. Based on the PMUA’s bids, the quarterly charge
(three months) will be $74.00 inclusive of all current fees,
an average savings of 22% or $21.55 per quarter ($86.20
annually) based on the average current fees charged by two
of the three companies now doing business in Plumsted, none
of which provide the curbside collection of bulky waste
items*. At no
extra cost, the Township’s lowest bidder, Waste Management,
will provide each resident with two (2) new 95 gallon
containers; one for household waste and one for recyclable
materials. On the occasion where you may have extra trash,
the Agreement also allows you to place at curbside outside
the container the equivalent of one (1) extra 32 gallon
container for collection at no additional cost.
These cost savings will remain in effect for the
three year life of the contract.
With the
Township-wide bid resulting in an economy of scale of lower
fixed costs for the next three years and more convenient
curbside service for the residents, the Township will no
longer spend taxpayer dollars to operate the bulky waste
container services at the If
there is sufficient interest from our residents for this
lower cost and improved service, the PMUA will begin the
above service no later than July 1, 2011. IF YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE
OF THIS
